Barcelona could beat Manchester City to the £61m signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri, according to a report.

Barcelona are reportedly prepared to pay the £61m required to activate the release clause of Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri in this summer's transfer window.

The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for Atletico during the 2018-19 campaign, contributing two goals and one assist in 46 appearances in all competitions.

Manchester City have been strongly linked with a swoop for the six-time Spain international as they seek a long-term replacement for Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barca are ready to activate Rodri's release clause in order to bring the holding midfielder to Camp Nou for the 2019-2020 campaign.

The move could be part of a double swoop on Atletico, with the Spanish champions also widely expected to complete a deal for Antoine Griezmann, who has announced his plans to leave the Wanda Metropolitano.
