Chilwell: 'There's no reason to join Man City'

Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell backs Brendan Rodgers to be a big success at the King Power Stadium and all but rules out a summer switch to Manchester City.

Ben Chilwell has cooled talk of a move to Manchester City by insisting that "there is no reason" why any player should want to leave Leicester City right now.

The 22-year-old is believed to be one of a number of British players being tracked by Pep Guardiola ahead of the summer transfer window.

Man City reportedly believe that they can persuade Leicester to sell the England international for a bid of around £40m on the back of a disjointed campaign at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester have struggled for form in recent months, leading to Brendan Rodgers replacing Claude Puel as manager earlier this week.

With Rodgers now in place, however, Chilwell believes that the future is bright for Leicester's young players.

"You look at the young players that he's brought through and the way they've become some of the best players in the world," he told Sky Sports News.

"Yesterday I bumped into him in the corridor and he was pointing out things in my game he felt he could improve. That's music to my ears. He could have stayed in Scotland and won trophies, but he's come here because he believes in the squad.

"He thinks over the next few years we can be challenging in Europe, and he can improve us. There's no reason why any of us should move on. I've never seen it so energetic around here. Everyone's happy to see one of the biggest managers in the world coming to the club."

Chilwell has appeared 62 times in the Premier League for Leicester since making his debut in the 2016-17 campaign.
