Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reportedly decided that he is prepared to remain patient in his search for a new central midfielder.
Guardiola failed to bring in a long-term replacement for Yaya Toure during the summer, and it has resulted in the Spaniard being linked with new additions at the start of 2019.
According to ESPN, Wolverhampton Wanderers' Ruben Neves and Ajax's Frenkie de Jong are both on Guardiola's radar but an approach for either player is not expected in January.
The report claims that Guardiola feels that he has enough options in his squad, with the likes of John Stones and Oleksandr Zinchenko capable of deputising for Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan.
Guardiola is also said to be wary about making alterations to his squad and paying over the odds in order to tempt clubs into a sale.
City currently sit level on points with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League standings.
