Manchester City to make Manuel Neuer world's highest paid goalkeeper?

Manchester City are reportedly plotting a record-breaking move for Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Manchester City are reportedly plotting a record-breaking move for Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

After six years as City's number one, England keeper Joe Hart fell out of favour at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season.

Hart was replaced between the sticks by Romania's Costel Pantilimon, but City boss Manuel Pellegrini is believed to be keen to bring another goalkeeper to the club.

According to The Express, Pellegrini believes that his side can attract Neuer, who has been capped 44 times by Germany at senior international level.

The paper claims that Neuer would command a transfer fee in excess of £40m and that City would be prepared to offer the 27-year-old a weekly wage of £105,000, which would make him the world's highest paid goalkeeper.

Neuer's current contract with Bayern is due to expire in June 2016.
