Lionel Messi reportedly requests a meeting with Barcelona officials to thrash out an exit plan before the start of the new season.

Lionel Messi has reportedly signalled his intent to secure an exit from Barcelona as soon as possible.

While news of Messi's desire to depart Camp Nou broke on Tuesday, it is widely expected that any transfer will take weeks, rather than days, to complete.

However, despite issues regarding fees and contract clauses, the 33-year-old seemingly wants to press ahead with his departure.

According to El Periodico, the legendary forward has requested a formal meeting with Barcelona officials over the coming days.

The report indicates that Messi wishes to reach an amicable solution with the powers-that-be at the Catalan giants, rather than become embroiled in prolonged legal battles.

With Messi said to favour a reunion with Pep Guardiola, Manchester City are said to be closely monitoring the situation.
