Raheem Sterling pens new Manchester City contract

Manchester City announce that winger Raheem Sterling has penned a new five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City have announced that Raheem Sterling has signed a new long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Sterling has made a huge impact at City since joining the club in 2015 - with 51 goals being scored from 144 appearances in all competitions - but the England international's deal had been due to expire in 2020.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with an approach for the 23-year-old, but City have put an end to that speculation by revealing that the attacker has extended his contract until 2023.

The announcement is a huge boost for the club and Pep Guardiola, who has made Sterling an important part of the team since being appointed as manager in 2016.

Sterling has contributed six goals and five assists in nine Premier League appearances this season, and the wideman is likely to feature in Sunday's derby showdown with Manchester United.
