David Silva signs Manchester City contract extension

David Silva signs a one-year contract extension with Manchester City, keeping him in place until 2020 - a full decade after joining from Valencia.

Manchester City have confirmed that midfielder David Silva has signed a contract extension to keep him in place at the Etihad Stadium until 2020.

The 31-year-old, who was due to be out of contract at the end of next season, will now take his time with the Citizens to a full decade with his latest deal.

Boss Pep Guardiola admitted earlier this week that he was desperate to see the club "legend" further commit by putting pen to paper, having started the Spaniard in 13 of City's 14 top-flight matches this season.

Silva has now officially agreed fresh terms with the two-time Premier League champions, and says that he is hopeful of adding more silverware to both his and City's collection.

"I am so happy to have committed my future to City," he told the club's official website. "I am incredibly proud of what I have achieved at City in my seven-and-a-half seasons here and with Pep in charge, I feel we are in a great position to win trophies this season and beyond.

"The style of football we are playing is a pleasure to be a part of and I look forward to winning more titles in the years to come."

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: "We are very pleased with this announcement. Not only has David Silva been central to the Club's success over recent years, he remains one of the team's key players.

"He has shown again this season that he is the best creative midfielder in English football and he will be very important in developing our talented young players in the coming years."

Silva joined the Citizens from Valencia in 2010, fresh on the back of helping Spain to World Cup success.
