Louis van Gaal explains David de Gea omission

Louis van Gaal explains David de Gea's omission from the pre-season win over Club America, saying that the goalkeeper picked up a 'minor injury' in training.

Louis van Gaal has revealed that David de Gea was left out of Manchester United's pre-season win over Club America because of a 'minor injury'.

Both reserve goalkeepers Anders Lindegaard and Sam Johnstone played 45 minutes each in the win but questions were raised when the Spaniard failed to make an appearance.

The Red Devils are reportedly resigned to losing the 24-year-old on a free next summer, but Van Gaal insists that De Gea's no-show was only a precaution.

"De Gea and Valenica were injured with minor injuries. We cannot take any risks in the preparation," the Dutchman told Sky Sports News.

The Spanish goalkeeper has one year left on his current contract with United.
