Saturday's Manchester United transfer talk news roundup: Paul Pogba, Cristiano Ronaldo, Dayot Upamecano

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Manchester United on Saturday, December 12.

A frustrating summer transfer window has now closed with Manchester United having missed out on a number of their top targets, including Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils were busy on deadline day, though, bringing in Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri, in addition to agreeing a deal to sign Amad Traore in January. Attention will now switch to other business they may do when the window reopens in the winter.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Old Trafford.

Saturday morning's Manchester United transfer talk news roundup:

Manchester United board 'regret siding with Paul Pogba over Jose Mourinho'

Manchester United chiefs reportedly fear that they wrongly sided with Paul Pogba over Jose Mourinho when the pair clashed two years ago.

The pair's relationship was a toxic one during Mourinho's time at Old Trafford, with many feeling that the bitter falling out contributed to the Portuguese's sacking.

Mourinho's successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now experiencing similar problems, with Pogba's agent publicly revealing this week that the midfielder wants to leave the club.

According to The Sun, United's board believe that they may have misjudged the situation when Mourinho was at the helm.

It is claimed that the Red Devils felt at the time that Mourinho was being his typical self in an attempt to get the best out of the France international.

Solskjaer's own future at United is in doubt following Tuesday's Champions League exit, but he is believed to have the backing of the board for now.

Juventus considering Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba swap deal?

Juventus have reportedly not ruled out using Cristiano Ronaldo as part of a swap deal for wantaway Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

Pogba's agent Mino Raiola dropped another bombshell earlier this week when declaring that the Frenchman's time at Old Trafford "is over".

Raiola also hinted that Juve, where Pogba won four Serie A titles in four seasons, would be his client's preferred destination in 2021.

Juve would need to raise in excess of £50m to purchase their former player, however, while his hefty wages must also be accounted for.

According to The Independent's chief football writer Miguel Delaney, the Italian giants could use Ronaldo as a makeweight, with the superstar forward's £28m-a-year salary proving a problem for the club.

"Talking to people during the week because I've been doing something on the Paul Pogba situation, which is connected to Ronaldo, and the fact that Juventus might actually be interested in a swap," Delaney told the Football Ramble show.

"It's not impossible. Connected to all that was the view that ultimately, Juventus are trying to install this collective idea of football.

"They tried it with [Maurizio] Sarri, now they're trying do it with [Andrea] Pirlo, but that is almost impossible to do while Ronaldo is there, because the way he plays, he just doesn't really fit into that collective approach."

Real Madrid are the other likely destination for Pogba should he be granted his wish to leave United, having recently reiterated that he "dreams" of playing for the La Liga champions.
