Eric Cantona: 'I love Jose Mourinho, but his style doesn't suit Manchester United'

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona says that Jose Mourinho is not the right man to take over at Old Trafford.

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has given his opinion on the potential arrival of new manager Jose Mourinho by claiming that the Portuguese is not the right fit for Old Trafford.

The former Chelsea boss, who has been out of work since getting sacked by the Blues in December, is expected to be appointed as United's new leader within the next 48 hours.

The proven winner, who has won league titles as manager of Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, will replace Louis van Gaal, who was sacked last night, just two days after guiding the club to their first FA Cup victory since 2004.

Mourinho has been linked with a move to the Premier League giants for some time, but Cantona, who won nine trophies in his five-year spell at Old Trafford, disapproves of the impending appointment.

In an interview with The Guardian, Cantona said: "I love Jose Mourinho, but in terms of the type of football he plays I don't think he is Manchester United.

"I love his personality, I love the passion he has for the game, his humour. He is very intelligent, he demands 100% of his players, and of course he wins things.

"But I don't think it's the type of football that the fans of Manchester United will love, even if they win. He can win with Manchester United, but do they expect that type of football, even if they win? I don't think so."

Van Gaal had one year left on his three-year contract when he was sacked by the Red Devils.
