Fabio Capello hails Ashley Young improvement

Fabio Capello insists that Ashley Young has improved since arriving at Old Trafford.

England coach Fabio Capello has said that Ashley Young's summer move to Manchester United has improved him as a player.

Young, who joined the champions for a fee of £16m in June, has scored twice in four league appearances for the club. The 26-year-old has also scored three times in his last six appearances for England, including the winner against Wales last week.

While Capello didn't name Young in his 30-man squad for the 2010 World Cup, he has hailed the United winger's improvement since arriving at Old Trafford.

"What's changed with Ashley Young [since not going to the World Cup] is that now he is playing with a really important team," he said.

"He has improved a lot. Confidence, when you play in a really important team, improves a great deal.

"This is because of the quality of the players he is playing with. He can play as a second forward, behind Rooney. He played left-wing for a long time. He is technically good, fast, and has a good imagination. And he scores goals – he can shoot with his left and right."

Young, who made 157 league appearances for Aston Villa, scored 30 goals in his four-and-a-half seasons at the club.
