Jamie Carragher: 'Real Madrid could tempt David de Gea'

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that Real Madrid could tempt Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea back to Spain this summer.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has claimed that Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea could be tempted by a potential move to Real Madrid.

The Red Devils signed ex-Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes to an 18-month deal earlier this week, fuelling rumours that De Gea is considering a switch to the La Liga giants this summer.

Carragher, who played 737 times for Liverpool in his career, thinks that the lure of Madrid could prove too much for the young Spaniard.

Carragher told Sky Sports News: "When Real Madrid come for one of your players, no matter who you are, they can still take them. They've done it to Arsenal, Liverpool and United with [Cristiano] Ronaldo. It may be that dream move for a Spanish lad to play for Madrid one day. I don't know how close he is to a new contract, but there may be something there for him.

"I think for Valdes between now and the end of the season is he's getting back to fitness after his long-term injury. Although next season, you look at him and his reputation and what's he won at Barcelona, he's going to want some game time.

"I don't see him ever overtaking De Gea and United don't concede many goals because of him. The worry for Louis van Gaal is will [De Gea] sign a new contract."

De Gea was bought by the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid for around £20m in 2011.
