Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick praises academy graduates Michael Keane and Tom Heaton for reviving their careers at Burnley.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has praised Michael Keane and Tom Heaton for finding success after leaving the club.

Both players graduated from United's academy, but failed to cement first-team spots and now the pair find themselves at Burnley.

Heaton left the Red Devils in 2010 and eventually moved to Turf Moor in 2013 to become the Clarets' first-choice goalkeeper, while Keane signed for Burnley last year.

"They have both done great," Carrick told MUTV. "Both had to leave here to further their careers and both of them are getting in the England squad, which speaks volumes of them as players and as characters.

"It is not easy to leave here, go elsewhere and find a new path in your career. It shows the character of two great lads who are down-to-earth and fully deserve what they are getting right now.

"It just shows what the club builds. It is not just about the skills and ability. It is about building a character and a way to handle yourself. I think that shows when lads go away and do so well for themselves."

Both players are expected to face United in this afternoon's Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
