Former Manchester United goalkeeping coach Tony Coton has claimed that recent criticism of David de Gea has been "over the top".
The Spaniard was held responsible for Tottenham Hotspur's equaliser last weekend as United were held to a a href="/football/spurs/result/result-dempsey-strikes-late-to-deny-united_65145.html">1-1 draw in the Premier League.
"The criticism of De Gea has not just been over the top this week, it has been all season," Coton told MUTV.
"Whenever a goal goes in they seem to point the finger at David."
De Gea started in goal for Manchester United as they brushed aside Fulham 4-1 in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
