Sir Alex Ferguson insists that his successor at Manchester United does not face an "impossible" job.

Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that whoever follows him as manager of Manchester United does not have an "impossible" task.

The 70-year-old has won every major trophy available since taking charge of the Red Devils back in 1986.

Despite acknowledging that his successor must have sufficient managerial experience, Ferguson believes that the foundations are in place for United's winning tradition to continue.

"Of course, there will be life after me," he told the The Mirror. "Absolutely. Manchester United is an institution and the history of the club forces everything.

"We have support all over the world and that in itself raises expectation levels.

"But it won't be an impossible job to succeed me with the structure we have at this club. It will need an experienced manager and I don't think the club will choose a young manager because of what the job demands."

Ferguson was speaking following his side's 1-1 draw with Ajax Cape Town yesterday afternoon in South Africa.
