Sir Alex Ferguson: 'Manchester United did not make a mistake hiring David Moyes'

Sir Alex Ferguson is adamant that Manchester United were not wrong to hire David Moyes as his successor, despite his ill-fated ninth-month tenure at the club.

Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that Manchester United did not make a mistake in appointing David Moyes as his successor.

The Scot was chosen to replace the United legend in May 2013 when Ferguson made the decision to retire from the game following a hugely successful 26-year reign at Old Trafford.

However, Moyes struggled during his time with the Red Devils and was sacked just nine months into his tenure, leaving the club to record their worst finish since the inception of the Premier League.

Ferguson told BBC Sport: "I don't think we made a mistake at all. I think we chose a good football man – [he] did a great job at Everton, had 11 years there.

"We picked the right man. Unfortunately it didn't work for David."

Moyes spent six months out of the game before returning to management at Real Sociedad.
