Ryan Giggs: 'Don't retire number 11 shirt'

Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs does not feel that the club should retire his number 11 shirt.

Ryan Giggs has urged Manchester United not to retire the number 11 shirt that he wore for over 20 years.

Other clubs, such as West Ham United with Bobby Moore and AC Milan with Paolo Maldini, have paid that tribute, but Giggs does not believe that he should receive that honour.

When asked for his opinion on the matter by MUTV, Giggs said: "No [the number 11 shirt shouldn't be retired]. There are obviously special cases but it just depends on the club really. I don't think it's [right] for United where they constantly churn over great players."

Although he retired from playing at the end of last season, Giggs will remain at the club next term as the assistant to new manager Louis van Gaal.
