Phil Jones: Manchester United players responding to "honest" Jose Mourinho

Manchester United defender Phil Jones heaps praise on manager Jose Mourinho, claiming that the Portuguese's honesty and passion is 'rubbing off on the players'.

Phil Jones has admitted that he is enjoying his football under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho, who he believes is starting to get the best out of each Manchester United player.

The former Chelsea chief has had a mixed start to life at Old Trafford in terms of results, winning 11 out of 21 games in all competitions since replacing Louis van Gaal in the summer.

United have started to find their feet in the Premier League, however, having remained unbeaten since a heavy 4-0 defeat to Chelsea in October, and Jones claims that "passionate" Mourinho is slowly starting to work his magic in his new surroundings.

"He is great, passionate, honest and his passion rubs off on the players and you can see that out on the pitch," he told Sky Sports News. "All the players fight for him and it is a great feeling at the moment. He is what he is and that is why he is great. Like he is with you, he is like that with us.

"That is all you can ask, for a manager to be honest and tell you how things are. If you need telling, you need telling and he has done that for every player and you can see that out on the pitch. He has brought a resilience, he wants to defend properly, but he also wants to attack in a free-flowing way.

"And I think you can see that at the moment, the chances are coming and we just need to put them away. Those draws against Burnley, Stoke and Arsenal have not stalled us, but we needed to turn those into wins. All three goalkeepers had worldy games. We are playing free-flowing football and getting into great positions and we just need to finish teams off sooner."

United's unbeaten run in the English top flight coincides with Jones's return to the side, with the Englishman featuring five times since shaking off a long-term injury problem.
