Juan Mata "sorry for the fans"

Juan Mata issues an apology to the Manchester United supporters after the Red Devils were beaten 2-1 at home by Norwich City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has issued an apology to the club's supporters following Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Norwich City.

The Reds have dropped out of the top four in the Premier League following the loss, which has extended their winless run in all competitions to six games.

Mata has claimed that the team "feel deeply sorry" for Man United's "incredible" supporters, who booed their side off at Old Trafford.

"We feel deeply sorry for the fans. I think they're incredible, so we have to do better for them," Mata told the club's official website.

Pressure is believed to be increasing on head coach Louis van Gaal, who has tough games against Stoke City and Chelsea to come before the end of 2015.

Van Gaal, who has also had his say following the Norwich defeat, led Man United to fourth in the league last season, but the English giants are already out of the Champions League this term.
