Roy Keane hits out at Manchester United's 'Class of '92'

Roy Keane claims that the importance of Manchester United's 'Class of '92' has been overstated.

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has claimed that the importance of the famous 'Class of '92' to the club has been overstated.

United's youth side that won the FA Youth Cup in 1992 contained the likes of Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Gary Neville, who all became key figures as the Red Devils went on to achieve domestic and European success later in the decade.

Keane has claimed in his new autobiography The Second Half that the 'Class of '92' brand has overtaken the team's own success during that period.

"The Class of '92 – all good players but their role at the club has been exaggerated," the Daily Mail quotes an extract as saying.

"The Class of '92 seems to have grown its own legs. It has become a brand. It's as if they were a team away from a team and they are not shy of plugging in to it.

"But we all had the same aims. We all had the same hunger."

Keane and the 'Class of '92' won a historic treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the 1998-99 season.
