Ronald Koeman: 'Memphis Depay could struggle at Manchester United'

Ronald Koeman says that Manchester United new boy Memphis Depay could take a while to settle to life in the Premier League.

Ronald Koeman believes that Manchester United winger Memphis Depay could struggle during his first season in the Premier League.

The Netherlands international sealed a £25m move to Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven earlier this month as United - who finished fourth last time out - look to kick on from the 2014-15 campaign.

Having netted 25 times in all competitions last season, the 21-year-old brings a big reputation with him to England, but Koeman - who joined Southampton last summer after three years as Feyenoord boss - says that the transition could be arduous.

"I think they paid a lot of money," Koeman told reporters. "Because it is United, where they already spent £200m on players like Angel Di Maria, such a big figure is put in perspective.

"If you pay millions for Di Maria who hardly plays, if you pay a fortune in wages and rent fee for Radamel Falcao who never plays, then £25m is not a lot of money for them.

"He won't play every game. I have learnt, while I am here in England, that Dutch players can't make the jump to the top of the Premier League easily. And young players can't play 38 games anyway."

Depay played under Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal for the Netherlands.
