Luke Shaw: 'I feel better at Manchester United than I did at Southampton'

Luke Shaw hopes that the injury problems that plagued his first season with Manchester United do not resurface, but claims that he feels fitter than ever.

Luke Shaw has admitted that he feels better at Manchester United than he did at Southampton as he aims to put an injury-ravaged first season behind him.

The left-back, 20, joined the Red Devils last summer in a £30m deal, but managed just 19 Premier League appearances as injuries took their toll on his maiden campaign.

Having started all six of United's games so far this season, Shaw says that he now feels fitter than ever and the youngster hopes that his clean bill of health will last.

"Obviously last season was very difficult for me," he is quoted as saying by The Express. "I just feel fresh and fit and hopefully I can get a run of games now and keep my performances up. I trained before I went back to pre-season. That was a massive help to me and now I just want to keep on playing well.

"It was made hard with the injuries that I picked up. I didn't expect that to happen as much as it did. I think that is what knocked my confidence down, I never got fully fit, so whenever I was playing I wasn't at my best and I didn't feel at my best. Now I am playing and I feel great.

"To be honest I feel better than I did at Southampton. Game by game I feel like I'm getting stronger, especially in training. I just want to keep it up now and pray there are no injuries."

The England international was tipped by Three Lions coach Roy Hodgson to win over 100 caps for his country earlier this week.
