Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino 'keen on Manchester United job'

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly eager to be considered for the Manchester United job next summer.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly eager to be considered for the Manchester United post next summer.

The 20-time Premier League champions are on the lookout for a new man at the helm after parting company with Jose Mourinho earlier today, less than 48 hours after losing 3-1 to bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield.

United have already confirmed that they will appoint an interim manager to steady the ship until the end of the season, with Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer expected to be handed the temporary role.

However, The Times reports that Pochettino - who was quickly regarded as the frontrunner for Mourinho's permanent successor - wants to be considered for the job at the end of the season.

The Argentine only recently signed a new long-term contract in North London, and it is understood that it would take around £34m in compensation to prise him away from Tottenham - meaning that sacking Mourinho would have cost United more than £50m in total.

However, Pochettino reportedly considers the opportunity too good to turn down and was coy over what could happen next summer when questioned at a press conference earlier this afternoon.

Real Madrid are also thought to be interested in the 46-year-old, though, with current boss Santiago Solari also only expected to last until the end of the season.
