Wayne Rooney impressed by Luke Shaw, Paddy McNair in Chelsea loss

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney praises the performances of teenage defenders Paddy McNair and Luke Shaw during the club's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Wayne Rooney has praised the performances of Manchester United defenders Paddy McNair and Luke Shaw in the team's defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The teenagers were brought into the side for their first appearances in over a month following injuries to Phil Jones and Daley Blind.

Following the 1-0 defeat to the league leaders, the United captain told the club's website: "I thought they were excellent. Paddy came up against a very physical player in Didier Drogba and handled him really well.

"As for Luke, we all know what a talent he is. He's been out for a while and has come back today giving a very good performance. I think the two lads will take a lot of confidence from that display."

The result leaves United third in the table, 11 points behind Chelsea.
