Gordon Taylor calls for "netting" introduction

Gordon Taylor feels that installing nets at football grounds will help eradicate a number of incidents caused by fans.

Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor has urged the authorities to install nets at football grounds.

Taylor stated his wish in the wake of an incident involving Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, who was struck just below the eye by a coin thrown from a section of Manchester City supporters at the Etihad Stadium yesterday afternoon.

With that in mind, Taylor believes that the presence of netting behind both goals will help prevent such occurrences from taking place.

"I think you've got to give consideration to possibly, as has been suggested, some netting in vulnerable areas, be it behind the goals and round the corner flags," Taylor told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Taylor's viewpoint has come on the same day that the Football Association's chairman David Bernstein expressed his disappointment at the events that took place at the Etihad.
