Top five full Premier League debuts

After Adnan Januzaj's performance last night, Sports Mole looks back on five other memorable full Premier League debuts.

David Moyes sprung somewhat of a surprise yesterday evening when he handed Adnan Januzaj his first start in the Premier League for Manchester United.

The 18-year-old went on to reward the faith shown in him by his manager as he scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

His impact has got Sports Mole delving into the archives to pick out five other players who have made a similar impression in what was their first start as a Premier League footballer.

Jurgen Klinsmann

It would be fair to say that fans of English football were not overly keen on Klinsmann when his move to Tottenham Hotspur was confirmed in 1994. The striker had played in the 1990 World Cup semi-final between England and Germany, which inevitably the Three Lions lost on penalties, while he also had a tendency to dive. However, on his first outing against Sheffield Wednesday, he made himself an instant hero, with the Spurs faithful at least. He capped a fine performance during Tottenham's 4-3 win with a headed effort, before going on to celebrate with a dive!

Fabrizio Ravanelli

The mid-1990s were an exciting time at the Riverside Stadium. Somehow, Middlesbrough were able to sign Brazilian midfielders Emerson and Juninho, as well as convincing Italian frontman Ravanelli to join the ranks. On his debut, the former Juventus hitman netted a hat-trick to earn the Teesiders a 3-3 draw from their home encounter against Liverpool.

Paulo Wanchope

Very little was known of Costa Rican international Wanchope when he signed on at Derby County in late March 1997. However, by the end of his first outing for the Rams against Manchester United at Old Trafford, the whole of the footballing world knew his name. In what was a shock 3-2 victory for Jim Smith's team, the 6'4" Wanchope scored the goal of the match when he beat four home defenders, before rolling the ball beyond the reach of Peter Schmeichel.

Danny Rose

A number of injuries meant that 19-year-old Rose was handed his first start for Spurs in the 2010 North London derby at White Hart Lane. The hosts had not beaten rivals Arsenal in the Premier League in over a decade, but thanks to Rose's stunning volley from 35 yards out, they were able to record a 2-1 win. Manager Harry Redknapp said after the match: "A wonder goal - amazing. He has a great left foot and is full of running. He will never forget that."

Michu

In terms of value for money, Michu was arguably the best signing of last summer. Swansea City parted with just £2m to land the attacker from Rayo Vallecano and he gave a sign of what was to come over the future months on the opening day of the 2012-13 season by scoring twice in a 5-0 victory away at Queens Park Rangers.
