Louis van Gaal: 'Ryan Giggs reads the game like Jose Mourinho'

Louis van Gaal believes that his Manchester United assistant boss Ryan Giggs "reads the game" like Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal believes that Ryan Giggs has similar coaching attributes to that of Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

The Welshman decided to hang up his boots last summer and begin his first assistant managerial role alongside Van Gaal at Old Trafford.

While Giggs is yet to venture out on his own as a permanent manager, Van Gaal believes that his right-hand man is learning quickly and could one day match the talent of Mourinho, who has won league titles in every country that he has coached in.

"I have to admit that I could not imagine when I asked Ryan to be my assistant manager last May how hard he would work," The Express quotes Van Gaal as saying.

"As an ex-player you are not used to working very hard and he is a very hard worker, and he reads the game very well like Jose, but to manage a group you have to work and from what I can see is that he's learning quickly."

Giggs will be in the away dugout for Saturday's clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
