Clayton Blackmore feels that Everton's David Moyes will be given the chance to take over Manchester United from Sir Alex Ferguson.

Former Manchester United defender Clayton Blackmore has backed David Moyes to replace Sir Alex Ferguson as manager of the club.

It was confirmed this morning that after 27 years in charge, 71-year-old Ferguson will step down from the position.

Current Everton boss Moyes is among the early favourites to replace his fellow Scot and Blackmore believes that the new manager has already been identified.

"I'm sure the manager knows who will replace him and he will have his say. It would not surprise me if David Moyes takes over," Blackmore told BBC Sport.

Moyes's contract with Everton is due to expire next month.
