Liverpool move to within one title of Manchester United's all-time record

Liverpool's 2019-20 Premier League title triumph, their first in 30 years, takes them to within one of Manchester United's all-time English record of 20 top-flight crowns.

Liverpool's 2019-20 Premier League title triumph has seen them close the gap on Manchester United back to one in the battle to be the most decorated club in English top-flight history.

The Reds were comfortably clear at the top of the list when they last lifted the top-flight trophy in 1990, but United have won the title in 13 of the 30 years since to move from seven to 20 while Liverpool remained stranded on 18.

This season's trophy is the first time Liverpool have finished top in the Premier League era, whereas United dominated the first two decades of the competition under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Red Devils have not added to their title tally since Ferguson retired in 2013, though, and have been forced to watch on as their two biggest rivals Liverpool and Manchester City have become the dominant teams in England in the meantime.

Now led by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United currently sit 37 points adrift of newly-crowned champions Liverpool in the Premier League table.

Jurgen Klopp will next season be hoping to draw level with United's record haul of 20 titles, having also missed out by just one point to Manchester City in 2018-19.

Arsenal are the only other club to have won 10 or more top-flight titles, being crowned champions of England on 13 occasions.
