David Neres 'rejected Manchester United move' to sign new Ajax deal

Ajax forward David Neres reportedly rejected the chance to join Manchester United in a £46m deal this summer in favour of signing a new contract with the Dutch club.

Ajax forward David Neres reportedly rejected the chance to join Manchester United in favour of signing a new contract at the Johan Cruyff ArenA this summer.

The Red Devils are understood to have made a £46m approach for the 22-year-old during the final week of the transfer window, only to be quickly rejected in their pursuit.

Yahoo Sport claims that it was Neres himself who turned down the move before penning an extension to his contract with the Dutch outfit.

Ajax director of football Marc Overmars reportedly played a major role in convincing Neres to stay, and the Brazilian is now set to become their second-highest paid player behind Daley Blind.

Neres scored 12 goals for Ajax last season as they won the league and cup double, including strikes against Real Madrid and Juventus to help his side reach the Champions League semi-finals.
