David de Gea's future at Manchester United 'still in doubt'

David de Gea's future at Manchester United is reportedly still uncertain as the Spaniard continues to stall on signing a new contract at Old Trafford.

David de Gea's future at Manchester United reportedly still hangs in the balance after it emerged that the Spaniard was stalling on signing a new deal at Old Trafford.

The goalkeeper, whose current contract expires at the end of this season, has been locked in negotiations with United over a new deal since last year.

Reports last month suggested that De Gea was on the verge of committing his long-term future to United after the club offered him a £375,000-a-week contract.

However, according to The Mirror, negotiations have not reached a breakthrough and United are in doubt over whether De Gea will pen a new deal.

It is understood that contract talks between De Gea's camp and United have been complicated by the former using Alexis Sanchez's wages - said to be around £400,000 a week - as leverage to get the 28-year-old a better deal.

That said, the current offer on the table would make De Gea the highest-paid keeper in world football, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stressing on several occasions that he was confident that the Spaniard would reach an agreement with the club.
