Everton to beat Manchester United, Liverpool to English teenager?

Everton want to beat Manchester United and Liverpool to the signature of Wigan Athletic teenager Joe Gelhardt, according to a report.

Everton are reportedly determined to win the race for Wigan Athletic teenager Joe Gelhardt.

The 17-year-old has made 12 Championship appearances for the Latics during the 2019-20 campaign, featuring in four of his club's last seven league outings.

Gelhardt only signed a new deal at the DW Stadium last August, but Manchester United and Liverpool are still reportedly interested in signing the youngster at the end of the season.

According to The Sun, though, Everton are also firmly in the hunt for Gelhardt, who has been dubbed the 'new Wayne Rooney' due to his form since breaking into the first team.

The Liverpool-born forward, who has scored three times in six appearances for England's Under-18 side, has managed one goal in 15 first-team outings for his current club in all competitions.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have also all previously been credited with an interest in the Wigan academy product.
