Fenerbahce reportedly distance themselves from a move for Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo, despite previous speculation surrounding a loan move.

Fenerbahce are not attempting to sign Manchester United's Marcos Rojo this month, according to a report.

The Turkish giants had allegedly been interested in offering the Argentine an Old Trafford escape route this summer, but talks over a move are not thought to have taken place.

According to the Daily Star, Fenerbahce believe the speculation has been driven by intermediaries looking to get the market moving.

The Turkish giants do want to sign a defender before the end of the transfer window, but are restricted in their attempts at doing so by Financial Fair Play.

Rojo has two years left on his £160,000-a-week contract, putting him firmly out of Fenerbahce's price range.

United chiefs have made it clear that the 29-year-old does not feature in their plans moving forward, leaving the defender allegedly fuming that Everton's advances to sign him on deadline day were blocked.

The former Sporting Lisbon defender was signed by Louis van Gaal in 2014 and has gone on to make 113 appearances for United.
