Marek Hamsik 'has never thought about leaving Napoli'

Sought-after Napoli playmaker Marek Hamsik, who has been linked with Manchester United, insists that he has never thought about leaving the Serie A outfit.

Marek Hamsik has insisted that he remains fully committed to Napoli amid speculation over his future.

The 26-year-old playmaker has long been linked with a move away from the Italians, having played a starring role in their ascent back into the Champions League.

His most recent season at the Stadio San Paolo was blighted by fitness issues and inconsistent form which led to rumours suggesting that he had fallen out with manager Rafael Benitez.

However, the Slovakian has dismissed such reports and stressed that he wants to stay at Napoli.

"I have never thought to leave, I want to stay at Napoli," Hamsik is quoted as telling Pluska. "I expected more of myself. I felt bad but I don' want to find excuses. Luckily we won the Coppa Italia.

"I haven't had problems with Benitez. I had a good start to the season, but then I got injured. It has been the first serious injury of my career."

Manchester United are among the clubs who have been credited with an interest in Hamsik, who has scored 41 goals in 148 Serie A appearances for Napoli since signing from Brescia in 2007.
