Kovac: 'Lewandowski will not leave Bayern'

New manager Nico Kovac says that Robert Lewandowski will not be leaving Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window.

Bayern Munich boss Nico Kovac has dismissed suggestions that Robert Lewandowski will leave the Allianz Arena this summer.

Earlier this year, it was claimed that Lewandowski was keen to end his successful four-year spell with Bayern in order to take on a new challenge.

Manchester United and Real Madrid have both been linked with an approach for the Poland international, but Kovac has insisted that the forward will not secure an exit from the Bundesliga giants in the foreseeable future.

Kovac told Sky Sport Germany: "There's nothing new with Robert, it's clear that he will not leave this club because we have a top striker and we certainly do not want to relinquish him or give him away.

"We want to achieve a lot with him. He is a great footballer, who has achieved a lot in the Bundesliga, scored many goals and now in the new season certainly will score many goals.

"It's true that Robert toys with going elsewhere. Only he has one thing he likes, the other is what we like to do. Robert has a contract - I do not know how long - and he will certainly stay as long as possible here."

Lewandowski has scored 151 goals from 195 appearances in all competitions.
