Manchester United are allegedly keen to sign Lille duo Jonathan David and Angel Gomes on free transfers this summer.

Manchester United are reportedly keen to sign Lille duo Jonathan David and Angel Gomes on free transfers this summer.

Both players are out of contract at the end of June, and David has confirmed that he will be leaving the French side in search of pastures new, with the Canada international seeking a fresh challenge at a crucial stage of his career.

"Yes, I will be free at the end of the season. And as for my future, I hope to grow, to become a better player, and to play for the biggest clubs in the world, if I can," David recently told Onze Mondial.

"But first of all, I just want to have fun, never forget that football is fun. I started playing football because I had fun. And even though it has now become my job, you have to remember that I wake up every morning for football, for the pleasure of playing.

"Do you want any clues about my future? You will all know, in due time, that is at the end of the season. I will not comment before then.

"First of all, I want to finish this season well, the end looks exciting and I want to play well and help the team. And when the season is over, the decision will be made and announced."

Man United 'looking to sign Lille duo David, Gomes'

Man United are said to be huge admirers of David, who has scored 20 goals and registered nine assists in 36 appearances for Lille this season, while there is also said to be interest from Arsenal and West Ham United.

Gomes, meanwhile, has dropped a hint surrounding his future by changing agents, with the ex-Man United youngster also said to be on his former club's radar due to his potential availability on a free transfer.

According to Fichajes, Man United's difficult financial situation will lead to them looking at the free agent market, and David and Gomes are both unlikely to sign new contracts with Lille.

The report claims that the 20-time English champions want to 'get ahead of the competition', as the duo are attracting interest from a number of other major clubs, including teams from the Premier League.

The Red Devils allegedly view David as the perfect player to boost their forward line, while Gomes would provide creativity from a deeper area, and is incredibly familiar to Man United, having turned out for the club between 2006 and 2020.

Would David, Gomes be good signings for Man United?

David has scored 104 goals and registered 27 assists in 219 appearances for Lille, including nine goals and one assist in 16 Champions League outings, and players of his ilk do not often become available on a free transfer.

At 25, there is plenty of football ahead of him, and David could turn out to be an excellent signing for Man United considering his goal record, as the Red Devils are struggling badly in the final third of the field.

Gomes, meanwhile, made a huge impression on his involvement for England towards the end of last year, and his technical ability makes him an interesting target for a Man United side that will allow Christian Eriksen to depart on a free transfer.
