Manchester United reportedly lead a three-way race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Erling Braut Haaland in the summer.

Manchester United reportedly lead a three-way race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Erling Braut Haaland in the summer.

The 21-year-old is set to become one of the world's most-sought-after strikers when his release clause, worth in the region of £64m, becomes active in June.

One previous report last month claimed that United had pulled out of the race to sign the Norway international, as they discovered that the striker has intentions of joining Real Madrid.

However, The Sun, via FourFourTwo, reports that Los Blancos' pursuit of primary target Kylian Mbappe potentially leaves United, Manchester City and Chelsea to battle it out for Haaland's signature, with the Red Devils confident they can fend off interest from their Premier League rivals.

The report, however, does not mention Barcelona, which is believed to be Haaland's preferred destination should he decide to leave Dortmund in the summer.

Haaland has excelled in front of goal for the Bundesliga giants since joining the club in January 2020, netting 80 goals in 79 appearances across all competitions.
