Man United transfer news: Sancho deal close, Sancho shirt number, Sheff Utd Henderson blow

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Manchester United on Monday, August 10.

As Manchester United go through their final preparations for Monday's Europa League quarter-final with Copenhagen, work continues behind the scenes with regards to transfers.

With Jadon Sancho known to be United's primary target, much of the recent speculation revolves around the future of the Borussia Dortmund winger.

However, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains intent on making changes to his squad, rumours persist regarding other members of his current crop of players.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest talk coming out of Old Trafford.

While there are conflicting reports regarding the future of Sancho, a deal is expected to be finalised sooner rather than later.

That is despite United failing to adhere to Dortmund's request to reach an agreement before a deadline of August 10.

According to The Times, United feel like they are edging closer towards concluding a deal for the England international before the beginning of the new season.

The report suggests that club officials have never felt under any pressure to reach a compromise over Dortmund's asking price by Monday.

Since the turn of the year, there has been frequent speculation of Sancho eventually making a big-money switch from Borussia Dortmund to United.

However, only recently has it become clear that the 20-year-old could be destined to become the next occupant of an iconic shirt number at Old Trafford.

According to The Athletic, Sancho has been informed that he will be given the number seven shirt if a deal can be reached with his German employers.

That jersey only became vacant last week after Alexis Sanchez ended his disappointing period in the North-West to move to Inter Milan.

Sancho stands to follow in the footsteps of the likes of David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo who have held that shirt number over the past two decades.

Sheffield United 'must cover all of Dean Henderson's wages'

Despite the inconsistent form of David de Gea, Solskjaer and United officials find themselves having to find a solution with regards to Dean Henderson.

Having starred for Sheffield United over the past two seasons, the former England Under-21 international naturally feels that he is ready to replace De Gea as United's number one.

As it stands, that appears unlikely, leaving the club's hierarchy to consider whether handing the stopper a significant pay rise will fend off interest from elsewhere.

However, The Sun claims that the development would come as a considerable blow to Sheff Utd, who remain keen to sign the 23-year-old on a third successive loan deal.

The report says that the Blades would be required to pay Henderson's wages in full, potentially putting them in a position where they would need to break their wage structure.
