Manchester United are reportedly ready to revive their interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld, who was scouted by Jose Mourinho while on Belgium duty.

Manchester United are reportedly planning to revive their interest in Toby Alderweireld when the transfer window reopens in January and are hopeful of landing the Tottenham Hotspur centre-back for a cut-price fee.

United were heavily linked with the Belgian during the summer, but Spurs refused to budge on their £60m asking price and ultimately held on to the player.

However, Alderweireld's contract situation at the club remains uncertain and he would be available for just £25.4m next summer should no new deal be agreed before then.

The Evening Standard reports that Ed Woodward is confident they can strike a deal for the 29-year-old in January by offering Spurs a compromise.

United manager Jose Mourinho has made signing a new defender his top priority in the transfer market after being left frustrated by the club's failure to bolster their ranks during the summer.

Mourinho watched Alderweireld during Belgium's UEFA Nations League win over Iceland, while United are also understood to have an ongoing interest in Leicester City's Harry Maguire.
