Mason Mount is hopeful that discussions over a new contract at Chelsea will begin in the near future, with the attacker determined to stay at the club on a long-term basis.

The 23-year-old was again a key player for the Blues during the 2021-22 campaign, making 53 appearances in all competitions, contributing 13 goals and 16 assists in the process.

Mount's contract at Stamford Bridge only has two years left to run, though, and he is thought to be one of the lowest-paid players at the club despite his importance to the side.

A recent report claimed that Manchester United were keeping a close eye on the situation, while Manchester City and Liverpool are believed to have made 'discreet enquiries'.

However, the England international has said that he is "very happy" at Chelsea and is keen to open discussions over a new contract at Stamford Bridge in the near future.

"After the last game of the season we had a little get-together at the hotel and he [Todd Boehly] was there with the rest of the consortium, it was good to meet them in person and speak to them all," Mount told the Evening Standard.

"It's so exciting what the future holds. It's an unknown but the way it's started is really exciting to see what's going to happen.

"We're a team that over the last ten years has been up there and pushing and that is where we want to stay. Speaking to them about their goals and aims, we're on the same page.

"So hopefully that continues. I've got two years left on my contract and I'm very, very happy here. Those talks will hopefully be starting soon."

Mount has also revealed that he was pleased with his contribution to the team last term, having managed 13 goals and 16 assists, including 11 goals and 10 assists in 32 Premier League outings.

"I set goals and targets last season and I managed to achieve them. I feel like last season was a good one for me. I still feel that performance-wise it could have been better," he added.

"The Premier League is a massive goal of mine and for this season. That's what you're looking at as a group. You never know what can happen and that's something we want to focus on.

"As a group, we are winners. You can see it over the last couple of years. We've always managed to get ourselves a winning opportunity and hopefully, that continues."

Mount had a successful loan spell at Derby County in the Championship during the 2018-19 campaign before returning to Stamford Bridge as a first-team player.

The attacker, who is widely expected to be in the England squad for the 2022 World Cup, has now represented Chelsea on 160 occasions in all competitions, contributing 30 goals and 31 assists.
