Newcastle United lead race to sign Daryl Janmaat?

Newcastle United are reportedly in "pole position" to secure the signing of Feyenoord defender Daryl Janmaat.

Newcastle United have reportedly held talks with Feyenoord regarding the possible signing of defender Daryl Janmaat.

The Magpies are expected to lose right-back Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal before the end of the week, and manager Alan Pardew appears keen to move quickly to replace the outgoing Frenchman.

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle have moved into "pole position" to seal the signature of the 24-year-old, who has featured in four of the Netherlands' World Cup fixtures in Brazil.

Manchester United are also said to still be in the running for Janmaat, but with Newcastle under-strength in the right-back area and Janmaat eager to sort his future before he goes on holiday, a move could be pushed through soon after he returns from the World Cup.
