Manchester United will return will a fresh £16m bid for Everton full-back Leighton Baines after seeing a £12m offer rejected by the Toffees last week.

Manchester United manager David Moyes is understood to be preparing an improved offer for Everton defender Leighton Baines.

The Red Devils had a £12m bid for the England international rejected last week, but Moyes is determined to reunite with the full-back with whom he teamed so successfully while in charge of the Toffees.

According to the Daily Star, the Premier League champions will return for Baines with a £16m bid that they hope will tempt Everton into cashing in on the 28-year-old.

Patrice Evra has been United's first choice on the left side of their defence for seven years but the experienced Frenchmen is believed to be considering his Old Trafford future, with Monaco reportedly interested in his services.

Fabio da Silva and Alexander Buttner are Moyes's back-up options at left-back, but could both be poised for loan moves if Everton accept United's improved approach for Baines.
