Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has reportedly been rejected by La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The England international's future at Old Trafford is up in the air after retiring manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that the frontman has asked for a transfer request.
Despite the club insisting that the 27-year-old will not be sold, Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has revealed that the striker was offered to La Liga champions Barcelona and Madrid.
Balague wrote on Twitter: "Wayne Rooney was offered to Barcelona and Real Madrid and both have decided he is not the player they need."
Bundesliga title winners Bayern Munich and United's Premier League rivals Chelsea have been linked with moves for Rooney, who was booed by a selection of fans during yesterday's trophy parade in Manchester.
