Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has name dropped Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria as speculation surrounding the Argentine continues to grow.
Paris Saint-Germain had been the favourites to sign Di Maria this summer, but recently pulled out of the race due to costs.
United have since been linked with a £55m move and Van Gaal has added fuel to the fire by lavishing praise on the midfielder.
"We don't have wingers of the highest level, like [Cristiano] Ronaldo or Di Maria or somebody like that. So, I have to play in another way – and you have seen that already. I only buy when I think we need to buy – in the position that is necessary," he told reporters.
United are expected to make signings before next weekend's Premier League opener against Swansea City.
