James Wilson joins Aberdeen on loan from Manchester United

Manchester United striker James Wilson joins Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen on a season-long loan deal.

Manchester United striker James Wilson has joined Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen on a season-long loan deal.

The 22-year-old has been on the books at United since the age of seven, but has made just 20 senior appearances for the club and has spent the last three seasons out on loan, most recently with Sheffield United in the Championship.

Wilson, who has also spent stints at Brighton & Hove Albion and Derby County, will now spend the 2018-19 campaign at Pittodrie, where he will wear the number nine shirt.

"I am absolutely delighted to secure James on a season long loan as he is a player I feel will very quickly become an important member of the squad for us," manager Derek McInnes told the club's official website.

"He is a real quality player, who I think will suit the way we play, and, having spoken to him, I think he sees this move as a real opportunity for him. There were other clubs interested in taking James but he feels this is the right place for him to continue his development.

"I'd also like to thank Manchester United for the part they played in making the loan happen."

Wilson could make his debut for The Dons in Saturday's League Cup clash with St Mirren.
