Ed Woodward plays down January arrivals at Manchester United

Chief executive Ed Woodward says that there is a "low probability" of Manchester United making any signings during the January transfer window.

Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward has insisted that the club "are not looking for short-term fixes" ahead of the January transfer window.

The Red Devils spent a reported £150m by recruiting the likes of Angel di Maria, Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera during the summer and reports had suggested that manager Louis van Gaal was keen to bolster his squad again this winter.

However, speaking to reporters this afternoon, Woodward revealed that United would only be making additions midway through the season if their top targets were made available.

"We are not looking for short-term fixes in January. There are targets we're looking at next summer and should any become available in January we'll consider it," he said.

Then, when asked if he expected that to happen, Woodward admitted that there was a "low probability".

A host of players have been linked with a January switch to Old Trafford, including Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman.
