Barcelona boss Xavi calls Robert Lewandowski "a great player" amid claims that the Bayern Munich forward could move to Camp Nou.

Barcelona boss Xavi has branded Robert Lewandowski "a great player" amid claims that the Bayern Munich striker could move to Camp Nou during this summer's transfer window.

The Poland international's contract at Bayern is due to expire next June, and there have been claims that he could push for a move away from Allianz Arena this summer if he is not offered a new long-term deal.

Barcelona, alongside Manchester United, are believed to be showing a strong interest in the 33-year-old, who has scored 47 goals in 41 appearances at club level this term.

Xavi hailed the striker when asked about him ahead of Thursday's Europa League quarter-final second leg with Eintracht Frankfurt but was not prepared to discuss a possible summer transfer.

"This is not the time. He is a great player, but we have to focus on tomorrow's game. I understand your question, but this is not the right time to discuss potential targets," Xavi told reporters.

Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn has said that the experienced forward will "definitely" spend at least one more season at Allianz Arena despite the recent speculation.

Lewandowski has scored has 341 goals and registered 69 assists in 370 appearances for his current side since making the move from Borussia Dortmund in July 2014.
