Melbourne City hit five past Perth Glory

Melbourne City move into fifth position in the A-League table after a 5-1 victory over Perth Glory.

Melbourne City have moved to within three points of the leaders in the A-League table with an emphatic 5-1 triumph over Perth Glory.

It took Melbourne just six minutes to take the lead through Erik Paartalu, who was perfectly placed at the back post to head home Aaron Mooy's free kick.

Perth almost equalised two minutes later through Sidnei, who saw goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen make the save, before Chris Harold fired an effort into the stands before the quarter-hour mark.

The visitors would be made to pay on 19 minutes as Melbourne doubled their advantage thanks to Connor Chapman, who benefited from another assist from Mooy.

Despite the two-goal margin, Sorensen was having to work hard to maintain Melbourne's lead, but the result was effectively wrapped up on 35 minutes when Bruno Fornaroli found the bottom corner.

Right on the half-time whistle, Sidnei pulled a goal back for Glory with a header, but eight minutes after the restart, it was 4-1 as Harry Novillo fired home after a corner had only been cleared to the edge of the box.

Perth continued to push forward, but eight minutes from the end, Aryn Williams received a second yellow card after conceding a penalty, which allowed Mooy the chance to cap a fine individual display with a fifth goal for the home team.
