Preview: Millwall vs. Birmingham City

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Millwall and Birmingham City.

Millwall will attempt to end a run of three straight Championship defeats when they welcome fellow strugglers Birmingham City on Tuesday evening.

Ian Holloway's side made a positive start to the season, but have won just one of their last four, with defeats to Ipswich Town, Reading and Huddersfield Town leaving them in 16th position in the table.

Their home form this season has been fairly strong, however, with two wins and just two goals conceded bringing seven points from their four matches.

They will feel that they deserved to take something from their trip to Huddersfield at the weekend, but a brace from Nakhi Wells secured all the points for the home side.

Birmingham, however, will have little sympathy with Millwall's recent run. Lee Clark's side have taken just seven points from their nine matches this season, with that total leaving them in 21st position in the table, just two points outside of the bottom three.

They have drawn two and lost two of their four away games in the league this season, while they have not won in the league since beating Brighton & Hove Albion on August 16, with that victory their only success of the season.

In terms of the recent meetings between the two sides, Birmingham have won three of the last five matches, with the further two clashes ending in draws. The corresponding match last season ended in a 3-2 Birmingham win, while Birmingham won 4-0 on their own patch last October.

Millwall boss Holloway has no fresh injury concerns from the weekend and could therefore name an unchanged XI despite a strong cameo appearance from Magaye Gueye.

Justin Hoyte is also pushing for a spot in the XI, but Ricardo Fuller and Scott McDonald should continue in attack.

Birmingham, meanwhile, lost at home to basement side Fulham at the weekend, which could bring changes to the team. Brek Shea and Wes Thomas could both start, but Clayton Donaldson will continue as the lone forward.
