Guus Hiddink in talks to become Netherlands coach

Guus Hiddink says that he is in talks with the Dutch football association and is likely to replace Louis van Gaal as manager after the World Cup.

Guus Hiddink has confirmed that he is in talks with the Dutch football association about taking over from Louis van Gaal as Netherlands coach after the 2014 World Cup.

The former Chelsea boss has already had one spell in charge of the national team, leading them for four years from 1994 to 1998.

It now looks likely that he will sign on for the Euro 2016 qualification campaign, with Jaap Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Giovanni van Bronckhorst working in his backroom team.

"I am working with the KNVB to create a coaching team around me. We will need a few days or maybe a couple of weeks to complete it," Hiddink told NOS.

"It will be a great team. I will not be a free-wheeling coach. When I do something, I want to do it as well as I can. Otherwise I would not do it."

Hiddink's last coaching role was with Anzhi Makhachkala last year, although he has been working as an advisor at PSV Eindhoven.
